Why Hood Cleaning Is Not the Same as Suppression-System Maintenance

Two Separate Fire-Safety Activities
Hood and duct cleaning reduces grease accumulation. Suppression-system maintenance verifies the operability of detection elements, nozzles, cylinders, piping, mechanisms and interlock functions.
Why Does One Not Replace the Other?
A clean duct does not prove that the suppression system is operational. Likewise, a maintained suppression system does not mean that grease accumulation in the exhaust duct has been controlled.
Operational Approach
The two activities should be planned as separate maintenance tasks, with dates, findings and corrective actions recorded independently.
