Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Facilities
Layered fire protection for lithium-ion battery recycling facilities, from receiving and quarantine to processing, storage and emergency response.

At lithium battery recycling facilities, the state of charge and damage history of incoming batteries may not always be known. This is combined with hazards from plastics, packaging, electrolyte, conveyors, shredders, metal particles, waste and forklift/charging areas.
Hazard Zones
- Receiving and preliminary inspection
- Damaged-battery quarantine area
- Temporary battery storage
- Discharge and dismantling
- Conveyors and transfer points
- Crusher / shredder
- Black mass and intermediate products
- Waste and packaging areas
- Forklift and charging areas
DEMOFIRE System Approach
- General sprinkler protection
- Fire-water and pump infrastructure
- Early detection, ASD or thermal detection as appropriate
- Local machinery and conveyor suppression
- Mobile or fixed F-500 EA® applications
- Water Mist and suitable F-500 EA® misting solutions
- Quarantine-area response infrastructure
- Hydrants, monitors and emergency response
Service Area
From Yalova, DEMOFIRE provides lithium battery recycling fire protection design support, installation, commissioning, maintenance and technical service primarily in Istanbul, Kocaeli and Bursa and, depending on project scope, in Izmir and throughout Türkiye. Recycling projects in Kocaeli, Gebze and Dilovası, as well as Istanbul, Bursa, Izmir and other industrial regions, are planned according to the facility scope and site conditions.
How should damaged lithium batteries be stored?
In addition to fire protection systems, segregation, quarantine, state-of-charge/damage assessment and operating procedures are required. The technical fire strategy should be defined for the specific facility.
Is sprinkler protection alone sufficient for a shredder?
Fast-developing fires inside equipment may require local detection and suppression in addition to general sprinkler protection.
Can F-500 EA® be used in battery recycling facilities?
The manufacturer publishes material for recycling applications. The actual concentration and system type should be selected for the specific facility hazard and application evidence.
